Our DSP chip or "Digital Speech Processor" is a small electronic chip that eliminates background noise while re-sampling your voice, helping to deliver crystal clear voice communications. The DSP chip only works with intercom systems and is compatible with the RRP242, RRP357, RRP660, RRP686, RRP350, RRP550, RRP502, and RRP510 intercom models.

If high wind or motor noise is a persistent issue after having dialed in your intercom setup, we recommend the DSP chip. Utilizing a simple plugin design that uses very little power consumption, the selectable noise cancellation levels help it adapt to changing background noise and significantly reduces wind noise.

DSP Installation:

This installation guide will describe how to install a Rugged Radios Digital Speech Processor (DSP‐ICM‐AT) into an RRP‐350, RRP‐357, RRP‐550, or RRP‐660 intercom unit. In effect, the DSP‐ICM‐AT is being inserted in‐line with the volume control, where it can filter the noise from wind and other sources picked up by the microphone(s).
Always disconnect the power supply to the intercom before starting this installation. Rugged Radios is not responsible for damage or injury sustained from improper installation. If in doubt, call for installation assistance.

1. Remove the 4 front screws from the faceplate. The faceplate may stay
attached firmly to the outer casing, but pushing the volume knobs will
loosen it.

2.Unplug the rightmost connector for the volume control; it is a 5 color
wire connector. Do not pull the wires to disconnect the plug. If the plug
does not disconnect easily, use a flat tool to loosen plastic connector. This
connector will be labeled as plug “A” in the pictures below.

3. Plug connecter A into the 5 pin connector in the DSP board, the two tabs
on the connector will line up with the notch on the DSP unit.

4. Plug the pigtail from the DSP unit (plug “B”) into the now‐empty volume
port on the intercom board.

5. We suggest you provide a way to secure the DSP chip from moving
around inside the housing such as double sided tape. Place the DSP far
enough inside the housing to allow room for the wires when replacing the
faceplate.

6. Replace the faceplate and 4 front screws.
