Baja 500

The race is only three weeks away and it's quite on here. Who is racing and who is planning on coming down to help pit or watch from the side of the road? This years course is going to be epic with the pine forest, La Rumorosa, then a 60+ mile of wide open Laguna Salada dry lake bed. Followed by rocky washes, sand whoops, mountain switchback roads, and did I mention the beach section. I can't wait to get down there and start prerunning.
I miss Badassmav and all of the crap he would stir up before the races. Come on #Badassmav/popo I know you're out there unless Marc has you on lock down.

We will be there with the #1915 Alba Racing XP900... looking forward to the old course, just a bit worried about the logistics of pitting. Fought our way through the 500 Sur with just 2 drivers, and 2 co-drivers... not possible with this course.

Marc and myself parted ways shortly after the Mint 400. I no longer have a "dog in the fight" as they say, so I respectfully refrain from joining into conversations that I have no business cluttering. Besides, I'm no diplomat when it comes to sharing my/our experiences, be it good or bad for sponsors or manufacturers. Just because one is well supported by a manufacturer, doesn't mean that their equipment gets an instant upgraded approval rating. Aside from making me feel important again, the intentions of my posts have always been to openly share information, by that I mean hard racing data and performance results (or not) in an effort to quicken the learning curve of less resourceful teams. I can't count the times I've been railed on because of things I've posted here, only because they shone a negative light on entities that supported us. If it sucks, I'll say so, and avoid dwelling on it, or using specific names. If it's positive, well you all know how much I like boasting!
I will finish by sharing this opinion:
Compared to the stock drive train (and by that I mean the tranny, clutch not withstanding, differentials, CV joints, and connecting drive shafts), of the 2013 Maverick, the 2015 xp 1000 fell way short in the area of durability, reliability, and overall engineering in general. With its cushy carrier bearing, floating rear driveshaft, extreme u-joint indifferent operating angles, electronically controlled front diff, it wasn't a matter of how long the drive train would last, but rather how soon it will fail.
I do miss boasting and posting though. Who knows, maybe I'll get a new fighting dog!

Hell does anybody know what happen to matt parks he was the Baja king? What happen to holtz and coastal? what happen to s3 racing at silver state? That's whats missing everything maybe utvunderground should start sponsoring cars for there stories.

Now that the drawing is out it looks like I did not get the best starting position, but definitely better then some did. This race is going to be dusty through the pine forest unless this weather keeps up.

Wow - I thought the Can Am trans was as solid as they come. Other than blowing seals, I do not think I have read or seen a Maverick toast a trans.

Yeah Adam, I agree. At stock hp, the BAM tranny was bullet proof and lasted a full season with zero maintenance or mods except fluid changes, which I ran straight 140 wt synthetic Lucas oil
Thanks also guys for acknowledging my contributions to the underground as positive ones. I was pretty good at stirring things up, while 'ol Moneybags is equally as talented in wrapping them up!
It looks like Johnny going "bi" this year, as in both championships. He's focused, driven, resourceful, and in my eyes (and I have said this from his first pro utv race) he is the real deal. Like Marc, he's the guy who after kicking your ass in a utv, can take you to the local go cart track and school you 2" off if the ground as well. These guys are seriously talented drivers that will have no problems handling the majority of their challengers.

That sucks! I'll have to say this season has been pretty boring so far with you not posting.

Besides, I'm kind of relieved not to be the guy having to prep against you. I will say though, in Marcs defense, that you would've had your hands full (as if theyre not full enough already) had he not switched brands. After all that money, time and prep, 17 mins of speeding penalties gotta hurt. Finishing up front is a lot of work, falling behind is easy. C'mon slappy, let's get with it!

is can am allowed to run there turbo utv yet. were there any turbo can am at the Baja sur race.

the turbo can-am is not allowed this year in Score to run for points as i was told. But there is supposedly an agreement that the turbo Mavericks will be allowed to run next year in baja.

reid you were obviously running a very well oiled machine last year with the BAmaverick. i am unsure of exactly why the turbo mav of S3 melted the trans down. was it improper oil? was it a bad bearing? was it the 75+mph top speeds they are able to run for such long periods of time with the amount of power the turbo car makes? the monster mav last year did not have the top speeds of these machines. simply because of power to weight ratio. Marc was not able to reach much more than 70mph at very best. the trans just wasnt spinning the RPMs that these guys are able to with the turbo machine. their power allows them to pull more MPH than you could ever get out of the monster maverick. with a lighter weight oil, i am thinking possibly that with their higher MPH, the trans is spinning in excess of 15,000RPM slinging the oil to the walls of the trans, rather than letting the oil climb up the gears. since the gears and bearings do not have oiling systems the oil needs its viscosity to climb up the gears and stay in the bearings. maybe oil break-down, or too light of weight oil, contributed to the failure. i have not seen it broken apart, i was just told what happened over the phone.
