Baja 1000 Race Report UTVinc/Polaris

We tried evey axle out there from summer bros to lone star none of them would hold up. The only one we could get to hold up were the turner EVO but you had to prep the shit out of them. If you were lazy and left turner grease in them they would fail. The turner grease to break in worked then disassemble pull all grease out and repack with good bel ray and good cv clamps worked great never broke an axle. But boots would tear and try to seize cv so we did the class one trick and started to zip tie extra boots to axles to slide on. That's the only axle we never broke.

It's hard to imagine how much lack of communication abilities can kill the program. I thought with all the radios and sat phones it would be no problem. That thought changed quickly when the chase team left the race car and I didn't hear anything from anyone for 7-8 hours. Craig and I started wondering if the chase crew got ran over in the 4 seat xp1000 by a TT or broke down somewhere on their way back to the truck. We were glad to hear that they were ok when they finally got ahold of us to tell us finding fuel was the problem, but at the same time we wished we had been able to know that info earlier so that we could have had them tow us a few miles closer to the truck where there was a dirt road that the chase truck could have driven almost right to the race car. There is always great ideas in hind sight but unfortunately when you have no communication to discuss the issue its hard to make the right decision. You know Johnny's guys are dedicated when they drive 5 hours for 5 gallons of fuel!!! LOL

Prerunning is not just good for learning the course but for learning all the access roads as well. We often go down them just for visuals if time permits.

Very good write up ... no political bull shit ... just tells it as he sees it ... Props to ole Money bags for having a pair.

Great fuck up I mean write up! No way Sims or any one person wins or loses this race it's a team effort if there ever was one. I'd say much like going to war together but more fun. As much as went wrong is how much was learned. What's really amazing is the fact that Utv inc finished this race the first time out in 2014.......that's not been done very often.

The only mexico race we haven't finished was this year's 500. And we came up 9 miles short thinking we lost the motor. It was simply a failed part. We've gone 4 for 5.
