FORMULA UTV INTERNATIONAL
Competition - Sanctioning

California City, CA – April 18, 2014 – Alta Vista Events (AVE) announced today the signing of a sanctioning agreement with the newly formed FORMULA UTV INTERNATIONAL (FUTVI) - COMPETITION - SANCTIONING, to sanction the remaining events in AVE’s PURE SXS OFF-ROAD DESERT SERIES, which include the PURE “200†– June 27-29; the PURE “225†– August 8-9; and the double-points final event of the season the PURE ‘275†– October 17-19, 2014.

Formula UTV International or FUTVI will assume sanctioning of AVE’s remaining events since the ISA (International Side-x-Side Association) closed its doors recently and are no longer operating as a sanctioning body.
FUTVI’s Rule Book will be similar to the one that AVE has been racing during the first two events of their 2014 season but will feature several minor changes. The rule book is currently undergoing editing and should be available in the next few weeks.

Speaking with AVE’s, Lou Peralta, he stated, “It’s really too bad that the ISA closed its doors. They were extremely helpful to us when we first started thinking about promoting our PURE series. They provided us with lots of good input about the side-x-side sport of off-road racing. I especially wish to thank Mike Lasher, of SXS Performance, as he was instrumental in bringing us on board and last year was a great influence in bringing others into our series.â€

As stated, the FUTVI rule book is currently being amended and will be available in the next few weeks. AVE will soon post the new FUTVI rule book in its website - www.averacing.com - for everyone to download.
In the meantime, input from racers is being sought to help "fine-tune" the current FUTVI rules. Any ideas, comments or suggestions can be made to futvi14@yahoo.com as soon as possible before the book goes to print. Peralta was quick to add that any current memberships in the ISA will be honored to their expiration date. Racers need to bring a membership card or receipt of payment for the 2014 memberships.

FUTVI memberships are $25.00 for one year, which includes the new FUTVI Rule Book.

AVE also announced that the new entry form for the remaining three events in the PURE Series, beginning with the PURE “200,†will have a spot where to place your current FUTVI or ISA membership number as well as your radio frequency. The latter is to assist PCI Relay to get in touch with you or your team during the race.

Yes, that's something we are currently working on.

We would like input on the Unlimited long travel cars versus the Production 1000. Red said he measured some of the so called illegal units and everyone of them complied with the lengths and width according to the rule book. However, not sure about the shock mounting spots.
Let us know. We are working on that now.

Lou

If you would like some input Lou, here is my opinion.... Production 1000 should be what it states, all parts should be of a "production" run... no one offs, everything should be able to be purchased by anyone to put on their car... Unlimited should be that, whatever you want to do... me personally,i think it levels the playing field for production guys, but I like competing against the unlimited guys... We all have to remember that we aren't only racing against each other, but the DESERT too :) both unlimited and production guys are breaking parts and finding the weak links of our cars.

One thing that concerns me is the payback portion. If we split the classes the pots just won't be as big or go as deep into the field. Also keep in mind the overall winner for the past two races has been a pretty close to stock car and he is getting good payback and doing a great job running a clean and smart race. Lou has an awesome payback in the pro class and if you split that with different classes we will ultimately hurt ourselves if we have a good finish. I've said before both set ups have pros and cons , let's just go race and have fun !

I agree with what you say as far as paybacks, but some people want an even playing field for "their" money... I'm a gambler, so I'll enter the class with most entries.... but not everyone wishes to do just that. Last year the westling's ran sportsman, with a fairly stock car, and still kicked most everyones butt :) but they chose to run sportsman, now they stepped up to pro, and still kick all of our butts. Not everyone is in it for the "$" but yes, it helps prep the car for the next time...

I just want everything to be fair. For most the guys that are coming out don't have a whole lot of money after buying a $20,000 toy it coast me around $600-$800 every race with prep entree fee gas food and so on. So payback always helps get to the next race. Sometimes it's not fair running with the bigger cars in the same class but its fun to race with them. If we put them in the unlimited class it evens the field and you can still go out and compete with them but if you don't do good or can't keep up it won't hurt you being there in there right class. Some cars have production parts on them but have changed mounting spots for shocks ISA rules say they have to remain in stock spots but can be braced. I am out there to have fun and make a name for myself for next season but at the same time try to make some money to keep me doing what I love.

I raced last year and had a blast with Ave, honestly I think most people will choose to race the class with the most people to have that chance to win the pot. I would like to come race a couple of these races, would I be able to run in the pro 1000 class?

Interesting input and good comments but no real solution yet. So let me throw something out for consideration:

1. Like Kent Perkins suggested, we'll try to encourage more of the BITD/SCORE c
Class 1900 racers to compete in our series and build up the Unlimted Class. I'd go for that because the Unlimited is the equivalent of the Trophy Truck in our series.
2. But the Production 1000 Class is a must for us to have, we're going to call it Pro or Spts 1000 Class. But it will remain as is, building on the production chassis and just making it work better.
3. Therefore there is no clear answer at this time so why not keep them as they are but add a few $$$$ for the Overall finisher(s)?
4. I suggest taking $25 or $50 out of each Pro entry purse and building an OVERALL PURSE.

Just an idea let me know what you think.

Lou

Still don't think that evens the field or makes them fair. Just gives they bigger guys more money to win lol. There needs to be a purse for each pro class not pull money from each class to make an over all purse and the cars need to run in the right class's based on there builds.

My car has a bolt on long travel that has shocks that mount in the exact same spot as the factory ones. My car has a stock engine stock exhaust and stock intake. The cage is over built for this series which makes me heavier. I feel I should be allowed to race in the pro 1000 class. I can guarantee a stock 1000 or 900 for that matter can out run me in a straight line.

Brandon you should be fine.

If all the suspension and shock mounting positions are in the stock location I don't see why it's not a production car. No matter what else has been done. The guys that won the 2 events I have been to did it in a very basic car. But in reality the Perkins car is still the same as a production but is much safer but does have modified shock mounting. But all his parts would bolt to a stock unit and his long travel is available for public purchase.

The more classes you have the more complicated it gets. Keep it simple.

If we are going to keep it simple the rule book need to be changed and not say the shocks need to be in stock location. Cuz if that's the case I will start back halving my car and changing some things up. And we are doing that we mine as well get rid of the unlimited class all together. They only reason I feel like its there is for the guys that put R1s in there rhinos and the guys that do full best in the dezert builds. And we have had what 1 maybe 2 people run in that class anyways? No need for it or the 750 class have the 1000 bone stock and sportsman for people to come out and have fun. And then 1000 pro class for all the others. Then tech will be easier making sure people are in the right class's will go better. And will prob be easier for everything all the way around. It would be nice if the sportsman class didn't run a 10 number so it's easy to tell the class's apart as you are racing and passing people.

I see your point, but the guy with a really simple car won both events. Those big fancy BiTD built cars were in the top 5. Sure an r1 build is not even close to production I get that. I finished 7th overall in the first 2 races this year, I got a 1st and a 2nd in the sportsman production class. I have never raced desert before and still have a fairly stock car. Our lap times are slower then the leaders but on the second lap we just drive past the wreckage on the side if the road. Last race we started 7th and finished 7th. I got passed by a bunch of people and wound up passing them back on the 3rd lap as most were in broke and finished in the same position overall again.

@ Lucho 4. I suggest taking $25 or $50 out of each Pro entry purse and building an OVERALL PURSE. My self and Josh #804 are not in favor of that. There's only like 3 or 4 of us little guys (850 Production Class) and we would like all the money we can get

I've said it once and I will say it again underneath my fancy graphics and aluminum my car is 100% stock!! we made not alteration to the frame, suspension, or shock mounting points from the factory and if someone out there thinks by me having aluminum floor boards by some means make me faster or have some sort of advantage your crazy!! If anything I'm at the disadvantage with a car that's 250+lb heavier then stock with a stock powertrain!! If people want to cry about something why not cry about something important like half the cars not having legal rear bumper or even one at ALL!

my 2 cents, red is the rules, white is my 2 cents

Stock shocks or aftermarket replacement shocks are permitted as far as the original chassis mounting points are retained. Factory mounting position may have material added for the purpose to strengthen, but must retain the factory material, and specifications. <s>Upper shock mount can be repositioned but must be an off the shelf bolt in kit. No weld in mounts allowed.</s><s> </s><s></s>
I don’t agree at all. For example, a Polaris RZR XP1000 could add a long travel kit and get 20†of travel and be legal with the stock shocks. But what you are saying is a RZR XP900 with long travel arms and modified chassis shock mounts to get 18†of travel is not legal, even tho they are in the same class. The XP1000 design allows for more travel with stock shocks, therefore it is at an advantage, so you are telling people they can’t modify the XP900 to be competitive with the 1000. See what I am saying? In the end, it is the cv joints that are limiting the amount of wheel travel that can be had out of these cars, not the shocks. Why not let everyone with an older car modify the shock mounts to be more competitive in class, whether it be an XP900, can am maverick or commander, Yamaha Rhino or Teryx or whatever. A XP1000 with long travel and different shock mounts can’t get anymore travel than the stock shocks because it is the cv joints and axle angles that are the limiting factor.
<s> </s>

15.10.4: Stock floorboards as delivered from manufacturer are required on all vehicles. Floorboards must cover the entire area from in front of the pedal assembly to behind the seat(s), and from the outside edge to the outside edge of the vehicle. Changing of the stock floorboard as delivered by the manufacturer is prohibited in the Class.
Why?? Why?? Why?? If I want to display my fabrication skills, and my aluminum floor covers as much as stock, what is the difference?? There is virtually no weight savings. Look at what Cain Snead is doing in a stock car for example, as far as results

15.10.9: Chassis frame may not be modified from factory specifications. Vehicles are to retain overall UTV appearance as delivered from the factory. Weight minimum 1200lbs
This is very vague. If a desert race utv has a stock hood and stock fenders, stock wheelbase, and a utv engine, the overall package is a utv. To say the chassis frame may not be modified is very vague, are you saying I cant remove the stock frame in the door rocker area and build a stronger chassis, then that doesn’t make sense to me. If you are saying it must have a hood and fenders and engine and tranny that belong to the utv, then I agree with that.

Lou, your rules and classes in my opinion are kind of weird. I think you have too many classes. I suggest 3 classes: 500cc-850cc pro, 851cc-1000cc pro, and a sportsman class. Plain and simple cut and dry, run what you brung whether it has a stock fuel tank or a 15 gallon fuel cell, who cares. All of the items on a full built desert car like Kent Perkins are a give and take, they all have pros and cons, look at Cain Snead in a stock car winning races. If a competitor of Mr. Snead wants to put more work into his pride and joy, what is wrong with that as there is no guarantee of an advantage.

This series is cheap to race as far as entry fee. and an extra $200 for purse is cool. To go out and enter a race for under $400 in a payback class in my opinion is very fair. And if you dont care about payback, then you dont care about winning, then just enter the sportsman class since you are doing it just for fun.

my 2 cents, red is the rules, white is my 2 cents

15.1.1: SHOCK ABSORBERS
Stock shocks or aftermarket replacement shocks are permitted as far as the original chassis mounting points are retained. Factory mounting position may have material added for the purpose to strengthen, but must retain the factory material, and specifications. <S>Upper shock mount can be repositioned but must be an off the shelf bolt in kit. No weld in mounts allowed.</S><S></S><S></S>

X2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

X3 on the classes. Idk why you guys are afraid of the bitd builds. They are just built out further for safety. Bitd or score wouldn't let you in there parking lot with a "stock" fuel tank. :o when our xp900 raced this year it retained the factory shock points when raced. Perkins car was ran with the new shocks and towers but its not a 1 off....give me a call I can sell you that kit off the shelf.

ISA came in and had a good idea. But in my opinion had some weird rules...personally I think more folks would have embraced it if it had not used some of the rules it did. 6-8 classes is too many. As mentioned pro 850-v pro 850-^ and sportsman is all thats needed.

one last thing I'll touch on. The current starting position choice is mind boggling to me. Both BITD &SCORE draw for starting order. It works great, each class has a draw. Each car leaves the line 1 at a time every 30 seconds. It works great. Lou's system for picking running order has made me scratch my head a dozen times. The big guys use it cause it works....why alter?
