Double Tap Racing #803
I Emailed Lori Bryant to get more information about the 2012 Baja Cup Challenge on December 8th, as it pertains to UTV's.

A bunch of us UTV racers are wanting information about this race: Cost, classes, requirements ect. Any information you could give us would be appriciated.

Thank You,

Tyrone Jackson

Responce:

The cost is $40 per entry no membership- We will required nets or hand restraints, and reinforced roll cage. The classes we have Stock and Modified and a few more once I know how many we will have signing up

Look forward to having you at the event

The Course will be apex 4 miles

What needs to be done to a stock roll cage to make it qualify?

Why is this still a question? They don't want stock thin tubed cage on the course. Buy an aftermarket cage, it should be a non issue.

Sorry for being direct, but we should know that the stock cages and belts are not satisfactory when raced along side other 1300# machines. If they are allowing stock belts, we should be smart enough to know that those are inadaquite for racing as well.

You're absolutely right, stock cage sucks! BUUUT I'm not sponsored, and a thousand bucks isn't growing in my yard right at this moment (wrong fertilizer i'm told) This race being only 40 bucks to enter sounds like good experience to me, so if I can buy a stick or two of tubing and make mine legit until I can afford a proper cage, I'm in!

BTW I'm running 5 point harness, nets, pro armor doors :)

I know that welding the cage where it is bolted together is considered reinforced in some rule books, that's why I asked for clarification..

This might make it a little quicker... This is what the worcs rules say about cages.

  1. Aftermarket well built roll cages made for racing are recommended. No factory stock roll cages will be allowed. Factory cages will only be allowed if modified/reinforced and tied into rear bumper/frame at two points. Gusseting of the factory cage is highly encouraged.
  2. Metal roof panels are required.

Awesome thanks!

This is another reponse I got back from Lori today:

Factory Roll cages are allowed but not recommended. Aftermarket well built roll cages made for racing are recommended. If factory roll cage is used gusseting and supporting the factory cage at two points that go to rear bumper/frame are highly encouraged.

Copy N Paste from WORCS right there, smart move to embrace an already successful format

I would be very interested in this race also. Their website doesn't show much on the race as of yet though. Kinda cutting it close.

I'm interested as well so I sent Lori an email requesting additional information.

Here is the email I got back - We will be open Friday 2pm-8pm for camping, sign-up will be Saturday am, morning pre-running on Saturday 7am-9am and racing at 11am - 1pm. One tire change is required
Thank you
Lori

So it sounds to me like there is no pre race sign-ups?! Looks like a fun race and I'm 90% sure I'll be there! Anyone from the underground going to be camping out? Anyone going?
