So Slacker calls me up and says "Hey Garrett, works slow, thinking about heading up towards Isabella and checking out some trails.....Got any plans??? Want to go??" HELL YEAH I DO....After pulling an all niter at work my boss asks me to stay over, I tell him only if I can leave in time to go riding...So after 16 hours at work, I jam home, load up and head for the the trail.... Let me tell you, we were both in AWWWWWW 45 mins from our front door is 1 awesome trail... It's rated most difficult and probably one of the toughest trails I've driven. A lot of off-camber, up hill, deep rutted trails...Took us about 3hrs to cover 15.6 miles!!!!! we took 1 small break as we wanted to explore as much as possible without headlight time. There are so many trails to explore up there that we are now looking for a good spot to set up camp for a weekend...I wish could have caught all of the "short-bus" 3-wheel action with the camera, but I was having so much fun I forgot I had the dang thing till we were headed back to the trucks....Hope you enjoy the few pics I did snap, and hope some of our friends can head up for some more exploring in the future...Having trouble attaching photos, but will get some up soon..

I was just talking with Dan about that area this week, I have been up there sense my mtn. bike racing days , that place is Great .

there is a server error when I try to load images :rolleyes:

We chose to start at "freeway ridge" up to "black gulch" and then some exploring...not even sure it was a marked trail....

I saw a marker for the Keysville trail, but didn't head that way.... Heard you can camp there and head up??? My neighbor got married up at Evans Flat last summer...Lots of cool trails up there and he said you can link them to freeway ridge or keysville... so a possible camping/staging spot in the works...

It would be nice to start at freeway ridge, but very small staging area, our 2 trucks pretty much filled it up. Well, until further investigation I'll keep trying to post some pics....

Lots of great camping in the keyesville area, close to town, river and lake are right there. Ride straight from camp and you can access freeway ridge, black gulch and up the maintain to Evans flat. We ride all the way up and across to alta sierra.. It is a fun winter/ snow trip too:)

everyone loves pics so here are some from some of our trips up there.. the last ones are from camping up at evans flat...

Dave, it's not Sherman 4x4, I want to hit that one too, but a call to the ranger confirmed it's closed till mid june... he said there are a ton of downed trees they have to clear on the trail.... I definitely want to check it out too, just trying to figure out how we can stage multiple trailers....I'm gonna have to check out the camping in keyesville.... I know most people wouldnt want to drag their trailer for 6mi down rancheria to evans flat...so keyesville seems like a better spot...

That trail is great, best part. it's close! I'll try to get a couple of pictures up here. It's as close to the riding in Wyoming as we've found. There is also plenty of old mining stuff to check out up there too. If we can find sufficient camping and other arrangements I would definitely be up for a group ride up there.

Use Keyesville Rd right across from the main dam campground entrance. You don't have to pull very far at all. It's all dry camping and access to everything you want. Here's a little map I found when my son and I vacationed there a few years ago. We stayed at the KOA on 178 northeast of the dam and couldn't get to Keyesville with our RZR, but we took the P/U and scouted it promising to return and camp by the river. We'll be back... Wonderful place.

Dan..
