SCORE Pro UTV class rules discussion

Wow, just re-read the rules.

Looks like my Rotax rhino with Bypasses will be mixing it up with the DSR1 guys in Sportsman.

Oh, well.

See you guys at KOH then San Felipe.

Just read the rules for the first time.

Must use stock OEM engine. Engine must remain in stock location. Maximum engine size is 1000cc

The way I read it is, you must use the stock OEM motor the machine came with, but can build it up to 1000cc?

Kind of sucks. Especially for us non-factory pilots.

I was looking forward to racing in a UTV class in SCORE.

Funny thing is, even Tom Graves little 686 Rhino is illegal since he has bypass shocks. Sal probably had a lot of OEM influence in the rule making.

IMHO, it should be Atv/UTV/motorcycle based engines limited to 1000cc's and shocks should be open, and 2wd or 4wd.

Rob what you want is exactly what score UTV racing has been. From what I gather you can still race in sportsman. Score just created the pro class. I would have to say that score would be dumb not to listen or consider the interests of the manufacturers.

Yeah, I know....and I am still going to race Sportsman. I'm just not going to dump $7k into my brand new XP to race SCORE 3 times in a pro class!

After next year, I am moving back east and don't need 2 desert race cars!

Thats how I would read that.

So stock means stock, right?

No big bore kits? No cams, no head work?

Basically intake and exhaust mods?

Not that I care, as I know I am out, but is the engine must be "stock" even more people are out.

I may be racing against more UTV's in Sportsman than in the Pro class!!

I highly doub't it will be a sealed engine class.

My understanding is that the rules effectively mimic BITD, HDRA, etc for the Pro UTV class. I believe that there were a total of 33 UTV's at the BITD Mint 400 last year. If we could get even half of this number for the 500 or the 1000 it would be great. There are lots of builds going on right now and I believe that both new and old cars can win in Mexico! Let's go racing!

I have only raced sportsman at BITD, so noone ever asked what engine I was running.....is a rotax powered Rhino illegal in BITD's pro class?

I remember when Brian Bush was selling his, he said it wasn't legal in BITD, but I figured it was because if the cage design.

Lastly, Pro is short for Production?

Are they going to even care about the engines? Pretty sure there has not been a "660cc" UTV racing in SCORE since 2007!!!

Pro is for professional...eg there is $$$ payback. I have also heard that two manufacturers have stepped up with contingency money and a third is considering it. Yes the engine must be what the unit came with, but my understanding is that they can be modified up to 1000cc, and must be normally asperated. I think Thomas Graves won the championship this year with his old 660 Rhino.

Sounds about right.

Thomas Graves will not be able to run his Rhino in the profesional class unless he changes his suspension. He is running separate bybass shocks, that's if SCORE follows BITD/HDRA rules for the PRO class.

Correct, Tom Graves Rhino would be stuck in Sportsman due to the shock layout. Stock engine cases are required to run in PRO, so again yes vehicles with non-stock engines will be in Sportsman as well. We are currently trying to build a new platform for Tom and us to campaign in the 2013 SCORE Pro class.
