Hi guys,
We just recently wrapped up a really cool project we wanted to share with you. This is Logan Gastel's new BITD Pro Production spec Maverick XDS chassis. Logan is a top 10 contender at all times in the Best in the Desert (BITD) racing series. He's factory sponsored by Can Am and has been racing with our products for a couple years now. He's a heck of a driver and a great guy. This project started this winter with the idea of making the lightest and most competitive Maverick in BITD. We do a lot of work with both Polaris and Can Am UTV's and really like them both. The Maverick's take a little more work to get to this level of a build so this was a good challenge for us. At this point, it's really easy to build a lightweight tubed RZR 1000. The Mavericks are built more like a car however so we modeled the brand new chassis we had in Solid Works, designed the new chassis and cut the entire thing off at the base to start essentially from scratch. BITD requires we keep the OEM chassis base with all the A-arm mounting points in the original locations and relations to each other. So we pretty much took everything out but the bare minimum and kept in contact with Cory Sappington at BITD/UTVRA tech to make sure we stayed in compliance.
We started with nothing but a chassis and some parts. Logan has the entire driveline on the other side of the country and it taking over the build from here. He and his team will install the motor, new LT kit and ALL the many other things that goes in to building a competitive race car. This thread is dedicated to chronicling the build of the car from the beginning to the end. As we get more pics from Logan we will continue to update. This car is slated to debut at the prestigious Vegas to Reno race this August. It's the longest off-road race in the U.S. and is extremely challenging. There's a lot of work to be done between now and race day!
Hopefully this project shows everyone you don't have to be in California to get some really good work done. We've been hammering UTV builds and parts out of Michigan for ten years now and continue to focus on pushing the industry to the next level.
Feel free to ask any questions you'd like about this car. There's no secrets here. We just want to share our work so you know how far we can go with a UTV build if desired and if you're doing it yourself maybe you can get a few good idea of your own.
