For immediate press release…

TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!

California City, CA – October 1, 2013 – AVE Racing announced that the final event of the DWT PURE SXS OFF-ROAD DESERT SERIES, Presented by SXSPerformance.com – OCTOBER 25-27, 2013, will present a different format for its final event of the season.

The PURE “400†– The William Higginbotham Memorial Race, is a 400-mile race that will feature two, 200-mile segments:
• The course is approximately 50 miles in distance and four laps are required for each segment
• The first 200-mile race will start at 8:00 a.m. and will finish when the first vehicle has completed the required four laps or five hours later at 1:00 p.m.
• A break of two hours will afford racers and crews the opportunity to work on their vehicles, fine tune them or just take a break before starting the second 200 mile segment on the same course.
• Race #2 will start at 3 p.m. and will finish when the first vehicle has completed the required four laps or five hours later at 8:00 p.m.
• Peralta anticipates that most racers will complete each lap within 45-minutes to 1:15 min.
• The start of each race will be “en-mass†according to drawn positions, during Friday’s drawing at 6 p.m.
• Once completing both segments, results will be combined to determine the Overall winner as well as each Class winner.
• Technical inspection and Contingency will take place on Friday (Oct 25) from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
• The awards will be presented on Sunday 10:30 a.m. at a location yet to be announced.

Lou Peralta, promoter of the series stated that this is a change in format due in part to the suggestions made by various racers and sponsors. Keeping the distances within a 200-mile limit will allow more racers to participate, recuperate and make repairs before going out on the second stint. He also feels that it will make the racing even more interesting.
No doubt that by the end of the first 200-miler there may be some vehicles way behind the leaders. Having a second chance at the restart of the second event, will allow everyone to bunch up, “start-over,†if you will and have a better shot at winning and making the racing more interesting.

The preliminary course layout that AVE is setting up is just about 50-miles in distance and Peralta is rating the course as a 7.6 in degree of difficulty (1 being almost impassable and 10 being like a freeway). More importantly, the course is being planned for the upper section, near the start/finish and it’s only 5-miles in radius which will make it much easier to access for “chase†crews.

Peralta indicated that, “Once again, we are using a mostly new racecourse for this event on existing County roads, easements and dedicated and grandfathered trails, nonetheless one that will offer challenges but will not destroy machinery or body.â€
However, Peralta also wanted to warn racers that providing a faster course has its own inherent problems. “I think we need to keep the speeds down a bit because we all know that there are other people using our 208 square miles of the California City desert. And although we will make every effort to make sure everyone knows there is an event in progress, you never know when someone may not be aware of it. Therefore all racers need to be cognizant of the fact that there are other people out in our desert, playing and just having fun.â€

Entries are now open for the DWT PURE “400†Presented by SXSPerformance.com. Sign up before October 25 to pay the regular entry fee. There are classes for Pros, Sportsmen and the Bone Stock (Showroom) Classes.

FRIENDLY REMAINDER FOR THE PURE 400…

Get your entry or entry deposit in no later than Thursday, Oct 24 by 6 p.m. to avoid a “Late Fee.â€
Just as importantly, we will be drawing for starting positions for the Saturday race on Thursday at 8 p.m..

Why are we telling you this?:

• Because we are using a brand new format to start our races.
• We have cleared an area on our property (the starting chute) where we will line up UTVs side-by-side (pardon the pun) and start the race in a “Land Rush†format.
• The area is wide enough to hold about 20-SXSs across. If we have more than 20, those will go on the second row,
• The first number drawn will have the choice as to where to start--second, third and so on…
• It will be a “Dead Engine†start
• You will also be required to be strapped in and hold the ignition key outside
• Once the green flag drops you will need to:
o Put your ignition key in
o Start the engine
o Put it in gear
o And take off
• The starting area goes from a width of about 20 cars to a width of two cars and eventually one car.
• Both “200†milers will start the same way.
• Be sure to get your entry or entry deposit in before Thursday at 6 p.m.
• Remember pre-running only on Friday between Noon and Midnight.
• Tech on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Racer’s meeting on Saturday at 7 a.m.
• First “stint†of 200 miles starts at 8 a.m. Sharp.
• Second “stint†starts at 3 p.m.
• Time limit: 5 hours or the first to complete four, 50-mile laps
• Course rating: 7.2 (1 = very slow // 10 = Freeway)

Let’s go racing…
