Newbie looking for a UTV - What do I buy?

I originally was looking at buying a Yamaha Grizzly and then I considered a Can Am.

What i have realized is that I would be a lot better off with a Utility side by side. I dont have good legs and it is a little bit of a chore to get on and off an ATV and I dont expect it to get easier as I get older.

So, since I was looking at the grizzly, I started with the Rhino. I see that Yamaha has a Viking now.

I plan on using it for hunting and hopefully for utility work a few years down the road when I buy a new piece of property. I have to go some small farm/garden work and such.

As I look through pictures and videos I notice that some people use tracks. The propertly I hunt is under water at the back end of the property. I have never owned an ATV or UTV so I have no experience to say that track would be necessary or even helpful.

This led to a few people pushing me to look at the can am products. They seem to be a lttle more expensive.

Anyway, I wanted to get some feedback on what direction I should look. I dont need to have the absolute best or fastest but I am one of those people that like to do it right the first time so I dont have to rebuy something in a couple years or regret my purchase.

I am a newbie so any help is greatly appreciated.

I think you should check out a can am commander, Kawi teryx, even a xp 900 ranger I'm not a fan of the rangers my work have 2 xp800s and they break down constantly. Very expensive fixes. But I think you should go to the dealers and look at all of them. See which ones are easier for you to get in and out of, and what best fits you

From what it sounds like you want, you have ton of great options. As long as a guys stays in the name brands you really can't go wrong. Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat, Polaris, Kawasaki and John Deere all have great utility offerings. If you're going to bring friends the Polaris Ranger Crew seats six adults. If you want to carry some weight Arctic Cat's Prowler HDX is awesome.

If I were in your shoes I would ask people I know who have machines about their dealer. A dealer will make or break your ownership experience regardless of the brand.

My in-laws have a John Deere Gator 550 XUV. They are pushing 60 or so and she is in a wheelchair. The father-in-law has no problem getting her in and out of her wheelchair, on and off the Gator. The Gator fits them good and the grand kids can pile on too.

It seems pretty stout and super smooth while driving over the fields. For what it is, I like it. The only drawback I can see is the lack of power steering. It is a chore to drive on small jobs around the house/barn yard at slow speeds.

They also got it for less than $9K Nov, 2012.

I agree with finding a good dealer, that is the only way to go. I have a 2013 Rhino and it's a pretty good machine but me personally if I was to do it all over again I would have bought a Teryx.

I own a Teryx, what I like about with this model is that is easy to maintain, parts are easy and not that expensive, durable and most of all, it can finish whatever task that needs to be done.

Sounds like you need more of a working mans vehicle. I have a Polaris Ranger that never stops. Only downside is the speed. There are half a dozen great working SxS's out there. Polaris, Can-Am, Yamaha, Honda. I would suggest selling your vehicle and not trading it in unless you have a lot do experience purchasing vehicles.

I would go with a working mans SxS for sure for what your wanting to do.

Good luck,
RiP
