Kilgore SR1 Race Report

Since my first race at Elsinore included faulty steering (frozen ball joint end) and ended 3 laps in when my ignition wire came loose, I'm considering this past Glen Helen race as my first.

I want to start by saying how awesome the staff at the regionals are by helping me rush through registration and tech just as they were closing Friday night and I was able to get in on the last session of practice. Practice was huge for me since I had never been on the track.

I went out to qualify just hoping to turn a decent lap and keep the rubber side down. I qualified 6th out of 14 but to my surprise I was only .865 off the leaders pace. There was a 6 car inversion so I started on pole. Once the race started I was quickly passed and fell into about the 4th-5th position. I managed to not spin out all race (although all over the track) and ended the race in 6th. If I had been a bit more smooth 5th place was within reach but I pretty much threw away my last lap.

All in all, I'm stoked on my first race!!! The SR1 is kick ass to drive, and a car I can really grow into. My goal is to finish the next two races and be dialed in to run the complete next season. With a few more upgrades and seat time, I'll hopefully be capable of running the pace of the leaders.

Once again I want to thank everyone behind this regional series, my experience with this whole process has been phenomenal!! I'd also like to thank rsmetals.us for helping get me out there, and all my family and friends for their help and support..

See you all September 7th!

Sweet race report Kilgore23! We are blessed to have such cool racers a great staff and awesome sponsors here at the Lucas Oil Regional Series presented by Kartek. We are trying to give the racers a Big Show feel for the guy/girl on a small budget. Be sure to spread the word and these race reports are much appreciated by all of our staff and potential racers on the fence.

Also, I forgot to mention a huge thanks to Walker Evans for a last minute rebuild on my shocks!!! I was bottoming out big time in my qualifier and the race felt like butter.

I asked Walker how much I owed him for the rebuild, he laughed and said, "that's why were our here, it's called race support." I'm still getting use to what goes on around here.
