“BLACK RHINO/RACERX MOTORSPORTS’ DRIVERS RACE REPORTS FROM LORORSâ€
BRYAN OSBORN #854 SR1
“This weekend at the Regional Race was an awesome experience; it was nice to get back out on the track and finish a race without my race car completely breaking down. My race car was at Dose BMW for the past 2 days getting a new ECU tuned in and ready to go out and race. We finished prepping the car by 1:00 AM Saturday morning and went out for 2 shake down laps. My throttle response was unbelievable! I went out for qualifying and qualified a second faster than everyone on the track. For the main event I went out and a couple laps into it my race car started sputtering but I was able to hold on to a strong second place finish. Putting my sponsors back on that podium was an awesome feeling, I can’t thank them enough†Osborn recalled.

ROGER DIAZ #785 RZR
In the RZR XP Stock Class, Roger “10-04†Diaz driving the #785 finished in 13th place out of 20 entrants.
“To finish first, you must first finish†#785 Sponsors: Black Rhino Performance, Racer X Motorsports, Twisted Stitch, Desert Molding Concepts, Makin Trax Suspension.
TYLER PARKS #703 RZR
Tyler Parks in the #703 RZR finished 18th. “With help from Kenny at Black Rhino Performance I was able to get back on the track (first race since 2010) at the Lucas Oil Regional series in the Polaris XP class. Without any testing or even practice I finished Tech and went straight to qualifying. Since I hadn't been in the car to test I used qualifying laps to get a feel for the RZR on the track. I managed to get some decent times considering lack of practice and tuning. We made a few changes to the car trying to improve the handling. When the time came to race I was feeling pretty excited to be back. When the field took the green flag I was hoping to get a better feel, but the changes I made didn't work the way we intended and I couldn't make any ground by the comp yellow. After the restart It got worse when my radiator got packed with mud and the car overheated and I had to pull off the track with 4 laps to go. It wasn't the finish I wanted but I had a blast and can't wait until the next round in July. Next round I will have my XP better prepared and hope to be running towards the front. Thanks to the Guys at Black Rhino for building me an awesome ride! “ Parks recalled.

STEVE “WHEELS†BUCARO #69 PILOT
“After changing the fuel system and a new reed valve (thank you Moto Tassinari) I had enough power to make some good slide passes, but not enough MPH to keep ahead on the straights. I started in 12th and ended up 8th and had quite a battle. Did some awesome, great wheelies, bicycles and had an absolute blast! Thank you to everyone who attended and helped out and continue to cheer for me! Food, family, friends, and racing don’t get any better! Still leading in points and trying to make my name out there†Bucaro said.
The #69 is sponsored by Black Rhino, Racer X, Rigid Industries, FWord Industries, Royal Purple, DJ Safety, K&N, Convexx, Yuasa Batteries, OMF Performance, Crown Performance, Wheelie Medical, Sata, PRP seats, Tony’s Tires, NGK, Meguiars, Kicker, Moto Tassinari, Raden Motorsports and Optima Batteries.
CODY RAHDERS #716 XP900/#16 PROLITE
In the XP class Cody qualified for the main event in second place missing the pole by .04 seconds and for the main he started outside row 3 with the inversion. When the green flag flew 20 XP’s charged forward and by turn two with cars spinning and going off course it was hard to tell who was who then a small hole opened up and Cody drove out of the carnage in 5th and proceeded to run down the leader.
By the 3rd lap Cody was in second place and the two broke away from the pack in a 9 lap battle for the lead. Cody did make a pass once and the two were side by side several times but he was unable to make anything stick and crossed the finish line .6 seconds back in second place. More importantly, he also made up the 6 point deficit on the series leader to end the day tied in points for the overall championship in the Stock XP class.
“I love the XP! It’s so fun to drive, the Fox 2.5 shocks make the ride plush and the ITP tires we ran at Lake Elsinore work just as good here. What a blast.â€
For Pro Open the R3motorsports crew had spent over 130 hours fixing and refining the #16 ProLite to try and make up for the trucks less than stellar debut at Round 2 and the time spent was beginning to pay off.
In the qualifier the truck put in five solid laps and Cody placed fourth, then for the main the lineup was inverted and he found himself in an area he wanted no part of, the pole.
The green flew for the main and Cody jumped out front, got through turn one, ran wide in turn two, and let the field pass.
“I was not ready for that yet (the pole) because we really haven’t race tested the truck the last thing I wanted was to wreck and take someone else out too, I wanted to run my own pace first.â€
By the end of lap one Cody was in 5th place out of 9 trucks. On lap two the leaders took themselves out moving Cody to 3rd. On lap four Cody began to feel comfortable with the truck, he moved into second and started to pressure the leader which began another battle for the lead. For the next nine laps the two trucks went at it, Cody had even passed and led for one lap but was repassed and finished out the race .3 seconds back for his second, 2nd place finish of the weekend.
“I could have had Alan between turns 4 and 5 on the last lap, he missed a shift but my truck just wouldn’t hook up, I need my Toyo’s (tires). We raced with three different used tires on two different wheels that we got with the truck and turned lap times good enough for 11th at the last National here. We still a have a minor issue with the carb; I need the ProLite to steer like my XP900 does, get the rear shocks dialed in a little more, a body, some real tires, then test. We're close.â€
Cody Rahders and R3motorsports would like to thank all our sponsors for their help; Polaris, UTVunderground.com, Magnum OffRoad, Fox Shocks, Superchips, ITP Tires, Muzzy’s, K&N Filters, Team Alba Racing, K1 Racegear, Lucas Oil, Black Rhino, RacerX Motorsports, Toyo Tires, Cognito Motorsports, Starting Line Products, American Star Racing, VP Race Fuels, Method Wheels, Fiberwerx.

JESSICA MORGAN #876 SR1
On Friday afternoon Black Rhino/ Racer X Motorsports Driver of the #876 SR1 Jessie Morgan made it to Glen Helen. She was eager to get the #876 SR1 on the track for practice. This being Jessie’s first time on a big track since her crash she went out and took her time. On Friday Racer X Motorsports installed a ¼ Wave Ground Plane Antenna in the center of her roof to improve the sound quality from the spotter’s tower. “What a difference the antenna made, it completely cleared up all the interference problems I was having. I could hear frosty perfectly clear!†Jessie said after practice.
On Saturday morning during Practice/Qualifying Jessie started to pick up her speed and landed 6th in qualifying. Unfortunately on the 5th lap in the 3rd turn Jessie lost her rear driver side tire. Losing the tire and hub Jessie was nervous and worried the car could not go back out for the main event. Fortunately with the kindness of her fellow competitor, Gary Thompson had the part she needed to continue. Her crew chief Kenny Frost and Jessie managed to change out the hub in time for the Main event.
In the Main event Jessie proudly took 5th place and had some side by side action with the other SR1’s. “What a thrill for me to be back in the seat of the SR1 #876. My new GMZ tires and wheels hooked up beautifully; the difference through the turns was incredible! This race was a big deal for me to overcome and move forward from my crash. I was so worried that all my training from last year was going to be taken from me. I was not going to let my fears get the best of me and I managed to make my personal best lap time yet. I am more than grateful to my family, my crew chief Kenny Frost, my sponsors, the entire Black Rhino/ Racer X Motorsports team, and everyone who has supported me through this year.†Jessie said with a smile!

Matlock Racing's: Wayne Matlock
This last weekend's race marked the half way point in the Lucas Oil Regional Series season. As far as the championship goes the weekend was a success. I was looking forward to the race because we had made a few changes to the Maverick and I was anxious to see what the difference was. From this round to the last, I had Bob Bell from Precision Concepts fine tune my new Elka shocks to get them a little stiffer and get the ride height of the car a little bit lower. He worked with PY at Elka to make this happen and it was definitely a step in the right direction. The other thing we made changes on was the addition of the Alba Racing exhaust. I was definitely happy with the way it turned out. They were able to use the stock head pipe which was good because it is double walled for heat and is also a pain to get off. The new exhaust sounds cool and added just over 5hp at the rear wheels.
After I went through tech, it was time to see how the car worked out on the track and I was not disappointed at all. We spent the majority of practice dialing in the new shocks and hitting the track. As the shocks started working better, we started to find other weak points on the car. With the shocks getting better I started to charge harder into the rollers on the track and found out that the stock tie rods did not like that at all. Half way through my second practice session I charged into the rollers hard and half way through the car started to turn to the right. I pulled back into the pits and sure enough I had bent the right tie rod. So Bob and I got to work swapping it out with a spare my buddy Steve Beilman had. We got the new one on just in time to head out for my third and final practice. Out on the track the car was working good and my lap times were better. I had a good battle with Nick Grunland that reminded me of our quad racing days. When practice was over I came back into the pits and noticed that the car was pulling to the right again. As I pulled up to my pit my suspicions were confirmed by Bob looking at the front end and shaking his head.
With the shocks getting better giving me the ability to charge into stuff harder, I was running out of tie rods. I called Derek Murray who has a Can‐AM racing team and has offered to help me in the past. As it turns out his mechanic only lives 15 minutes from Glenn Helen and had tie rods at his house. What was even better is he had one heavy duty tie rod. So I went and got that from him, put it on the right side of my car, and crossed my fingers.
On race day, Saturday morning, we made some changes to the QSC clutch and I headed to staging to get ready for qualifying. Out on the track I took it easy for a couple of laps to get used to the shock changes that Bob made just before I went out. After a couple of laps I picked it up a little and then I got comfortable with the car and tried my best to lay down a good lap time without hurting the car. When I pulled off the track I felt really good about my last two laps and after looking at the results, I was right. I qualified first in the Unlimited UTV class.
Now all there was left to do was race. We waited around for what seemed to be forever until it was time to head over to staging. Once out on the track it was all of the SR1s then the Unlimited UTVs. When the green flag flew I got the jump on a couple of SR1s and was looking good. I lead the first lap and was starting to feel good until one of the SR1s got out of control and cut across the course forcing me to hit the brakes coming onto the front straight‐a‐way and allowing someone to get by me on the outside. I tried to get him back but I had lost too much momentum and now found myself in a heated battle with third place Steve Beilman. I was able to hold him off but was also trying to get first back and all the while trying to dodge SR1s that couldn't seem to hold a line. As I came into one of the turns I had to check up and was hit from behind by Beilman and it freaked me out because I am used to racing in the desert on a quad and there is no bumping because it will hurt you. So now I had my hands full with first place and third place and squirrely SR1s only to come into a turn and out of the corner of my eye I see Dave Nagy flipping through the air as he tried to pass everyone on the outside, so I checked up again and one guess who did not check up, Steve Beilman. I then realized that I needed to get more aggressive and stop pussy footing this thing like a quad at a desert race afraid to trade a little paint. Shorty after that we had a full course yellow because of Dave Nagy's RZR freestyle moves. Just before the green flag came out they black flagged Steve but he was unaware because his spotter lost contact with the tower. After the yellow it was on with Steve and I. He managed to come up and show me a wheel and after a little rubbing he got by. I was starting to think I had the hang of this bumping thing. Steve and I were flat out pinned coming into the first set of rollers and there is a 180 degree turn right after the last one. As he approached the turn I noticed he was forced to go wide and I was going to try and take him on the inside. Just about that time he came inside and shut the door on me. Well I figured it was a good time to try out this bumping thing and opened that door back up. Well I got him alright, probably a little too hard and that forced my bumper down under his and locked us together. He got on the gas and his car hooked an immediate right looking like I pushed him off the track. When he went over the berm we became unhooked and I took off. Unfortunately when we were hooked up fourth place got by forcing me back to third. Even worse my little stunt caused them to black flag me, forcing me to pull in through the hot pits ending my run for a first place finish.
All in all it was a good weekend because I was racing with my family there and I am now in the points lead for the Unlimited UTV class. Even though the race could have turned out better, it could have been worse.
I would like to thank Derek Murray for going out of his way to track down parts for me. Bob Bell from Precision Concepts for getting the car working as good as it is. Bob has taken a huge interest in this program and he will have this Can Am where it needs to be for the next round. Also a huge shot out to the guys over at Alba Racing for not only a killer exhaust, but also prepping my car and getting it ready to go. You guys are top notch. I would like to thank all of my family and friends that came out to support me.
I also want to thank all of my other sponsors for their help I could not do it without them: Racer X/Black Rhino, Maxxis, Alba Racing, Elka, Pro Armor, Precision Concepts, DWT, KZ Trailers, Quad Shop Customs, Fly Racing, UNI, Tire Blocks, Baja Designs, Motion Pro, CJ Norby Signs, Galfer, IMS, Scott, Alpinestars, and Necksgen.
