â€œSPEED ENERGY HDRA RIDGECREST 250 RACE RECAPâ€

April 9, 2013-This past weekend the SPEED Energy / Black Rhino / RacerX UTV race team attended the HDRA Ridgecrest 250 in Ridgecrest CA. The team headed up by driver Sean Cook and co-driver Dennis Jean took home a 3<sup>rd</sup> place finish in the UTV class.

The race adventure began on Friday when the team participated at tech and registration in Ridgecrest. The team had the SPEED Energy / Black Rhino / RacerX UTV looking its best as it rolled through tech. The team had plenty of SPEED Energy on hand for all their fans. Once again HDRA provided a party atmosphere for all to enjoy. Plenty of sponsors were on hand to provide last minute services for all the racers in attendance.

Race day did not come as early as usual this time around, the team staged at 0900 hours and were off the starting line by about 0930. By the time the UTV class left the line the overall leaders were already half way around the track. The SPEED Energy / Black Rhino / RacerX UTV team drew the outside pole position. When the flag dropped the drag race was on, SPEED Energy beat the #1919 into the desert for the long journey to the finish line. The first 10 miles of the race was pretty standard fare, just when Sean and Dennis settled into the rhythm of the race the course took a turn for the worse. From about mile marker 11 on it was nothing but whoops, nonstop for nearly 30 miles.

Lap one kept the SPEED Energy / Black Rhino / RacerX team out in the lead but at about mile 38 they experienced their first of two flat tires. Sean and Dennis made quick time of the tire change and where soon back on course, by this time they had fallen to third place. Lap one ended and they were off onto lap two. Lap two had Sean and Dennis just trying to hang on, the course had deteriorated from all the trophy trucks and other big cars that the whoops seemed as if they were going to swallow up the mighty RZR.

At the end of lap two Sean and Dennis came into the pits for their scheduled fuel stop and vehicle inspection. During the pit stop the team discovered both inner rear CV boots were torn, Crew Chief Jeff Correia made the call to swap out both axles. Since there was a little down time Sean and Dennis decided to switch driving and co-driving duties, it was now time for Dennis to take control of the RZR. The service was complete, fuel was topped off and the SPEED Energy / Black Rhino / RacerX UTV was back in the game. Dennis had his work cut out for himself as he tried to find his rhythm of the race. Co-driving for Sean is not a new experience he has driven with Dennis for many years and knows how Dennis drives. Sean stated Dennis does not say a word when he is behind the wheel but rather listens very intently. As soon as I stop talking Dennis will start asking what is wrong. Dennis settled into a fast and steady pace even though the track was nothing like it was on lap one. Once again at about mile 32 they flattened a front left tire, Sean and Dennis made another tire change and where soon on their way. Dennis brought the RZR into the remote pit where team members Doug and Stephanie were waiting to swap out the flat tire on the rack for a fresh one. Dennis was soon back on course and driving like a mad man trying to catch Doug McCrady who was in second place. At mile marker 48 the course took a turn for the best, no more whoops, Dennis put the pedal down and made a push for the finish. When the dust had settled the team was rolling up onto the finish line in third place. The entire SPEED Energy / Black Rhino / RacerX team was there to welcome the drivers and to give them some well-deserved ice cold SPEED Energy!
